An update for 2025
For much of 2024, I figured by this point, I would have made a few changes to You, Me and An Album. I had some half-baked ideas about the format and production that never quite got fully baked. Starting with the next episode, which will be out on Sunday, there will be one important change. I’ll be publishing episodes on a weekly basis again after having been mostly on an every-other-week schedule for the last 15 months.
The whole reason I cut back on episodes was that I had started writing for American Songwriter in October 2023, and I was having trouble balancing my workload for them with putting out a weekly show. I was laid off last November, but one silver lining is that I have more time to devote to the podcast once again. I’m not sure how long the weekly schedule will last, but I am going to do my best to maintain it, regardless of what my new work schedule might look like once that materializes.
As if I needed more motivation to publish weekly episodes, I’ve been lucky to have already booked several great guests for upcoming shows. The first episode of 2025 features folk legend John McCutcheon getting me acquainted with Pete Seeger’s We Shall Overcome. I had a great conversation with John, and with all of the Dylan/Seeger discussion going around lately, it couldn’t have been better timed. In addition to having some amazing guests lined up, the selection of albums we’ll be discussing is shaping up to be pretty eclectic.
I also want to share a couple of non-YMAAA developments…well, the first one is actually related to the show. The Bradford, UK radio station BCB 106.6 FM aired a portion of YMAAA Ep 161 with Tasmin Archer on their Pick of the Podcasts show. Many thanks to Mike Kelly for airing a portion of our discussion about Daniel Lanois’ Shine.
Also, I had a great conversation with Jason Bemis Lawrence on his excellent Before the Stream podcast about U2’s War. Jason was a recent guest on YMAAA, talking with me about Radiohead’s Kid A on Ep 165.
Thanks to everyone who listened to the show in 2024 (or before)! I can’t wait to share more of these conversations with you in 2025.
